Christmas Time, Christmas Time!
Hey Folks, I have a quick update for everyone before we get to the movies: we are NOT, as previously stated, going to open Alvin & the Chipmonks on Dec 14th. Instead, we are going to open I Am Legend, starring Will Smith. We will follow that with National Treasure II: Book of Secrets the next week, and THEN we’ll be able to get Alvin, Simon, and Theodore here, two weeks later. Chalk it up to the vagaries of being a small town movie theater, folks. Sorry for the last-minute switcharoo, but don’t worry: the kids will be able to see the rodents without going to Wichita Falls. Wait, are chipmonks rodents? I never can tell…

The Golden Compass Controversy
Many of you may have received an email or two regarding this movie. I won’t re-hash the controversy here, but many folks are upset that this movie is opening so close to Christmas. Our job as a community theater is to reflect the feelings of the community. To that end, we have elected NOT to play The Golden Compass in the month of December, so that we may all better remember what the season is really about.

However, my wife and I value most highly the Freedom of Speech that we have in this country. So, for the folks who want to see the film, we will be showing it for one week only during the first weekend in January. In addition, I’m putting together a round-table discussion group to be held after one of the shows, so that we as a community can talk about some of the issues that this controversy has raised. Stay tuned for more details.

Do NOT Sweat It This Year!
Seriously, you need to relax. Look at you. You’re a bundle of nerves! It’s the Christmas shopping, isn’t it? I can tell. Look, instead of running nilly-willy all over the place, come to the Plaza and pick up some Plaza Bucks for those folks on your list. At ten dollars, it’s the perfect gift to let someone know you’re thinking about them, and you also get to support one of your favorite local businesses. It’s a win-win! But what about that hard-to-shop-for person? Thankfully, we’ve still got Plaza Patrons memberships available! $100 is nothing compared to all of the cool things the Plaza Patrons are going to get this coming year. Exclusive parties and sneak previews, discounts on rental fees, free popcorn and sodas…the list goes on!

If you’re thinking about becoming a Plaza Patron, now’s the time! You can grab an application right here:Plaza Patron E 01.

We’re back from the wilds of New York City, and we’re glad to be home in Vernon! So, let’s get our Thanksgiving groove on (and that Icky Black Friday) with a couple of family friendly films. Note that we WILL be open on both Wednesday and Thursday this week to better help you keep the kids out of your hair while you try to stuff a forty pound turkey. In fact, you know what I think? You can kill two birds with one stone and not stress yourself out. Something to think about…

For the Next Three Weeks

October 31st, 2007
Hey folks, I want you to get in the habit in the next three weeks of looking for our schedule fliers, currently on display in over 60 local businesses all around town and in the surrounding communities. Or, of course, you can swing by the theater and either check the marquee or look at the box office to see what’s playing. Or, finally, you can call the MovieLine at 553-3999 and get the info from the horse’s mouth. But for the next three weeks, the website will be no help whatsoever, as Mark will be out of town, hopefully winning an award for his biography of Robert E. Howard.

Now that you’re all caught up, we’ve got some fun stuff coming soon! Hang in there!

Contacting the Plaza

October 4th, 2007
Okay, folks, there are several ways to get ahold of us. We’ve got phone numbers that go directly to Mark and Cathy, and they can be found on the ticket booth window if you’re in town. If you’re not in town, you can always try: eight three nine, seven eight seven three. That will usually get one or both of us.

Optionally, you can send me an email: mark (at) vernonplaza dot com. That will get the job done, too. If you need to talk to Cathy about a special event, use the above address and replace “Mark” with “Cathy.”

Finally, if you want me to send you the movie times in your email, you can join the yahoo group: vernonplaza-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

It’s free to join, and it’s a great way to get a weekly reminder that we’re here and we appreciate your business!
