STAR TREK EVENT ON HOLD!
Folks, I’m sorry to say that Paramount is not going to let us premiere Star Trek in Vernon. They do not have any confidence in the movie industry right now (despite the fact that ticket sales are up 17% across the country, and despite the fact that we’ve always done well with their movies, particularly the ones we’ve opened for them). However, we are at the top of the list should prints magically become available between now and opening day (not likely–this is Hollywood we’re talking about here, and that would require rational thinking). Since I do not appreciate being told how to run my business by corporations that can buy and sell me a hundred times over, I am asking all of you to PLEASE SAVE STAR TREK FOR THE VERNON PLAZA. Let me be clear about this: the only thing they care about is how much money we can make them. They do not care about our economic growth nor the community’s economic growth. If you save Star Trek for the Plaza, it will show them that they were wrong, and that they should have sent us a print instead of…well, someone else.

If, on the other hand, everyone leaves town to see Star Trek, and our ticket sales reflect that fact, Paramount will say “See? We were right to not send the movie to Vernon.” And nothing will change. I have been battling this decision for a week now, and they will not budge. The only thing that will stop this kind of thing from happening is to show that we CAN be a healthy, first run theater that people in this area support. Please consider my proposal and tell all of your friends. This tactic worked last year with The Incredible Hulk and Universal. I need your help to send a message to big business that we cannot be dismissed or ignored. And, most of all, I want to be able to open the big movies that you keep asking for and deserve to see. Thanks in Advance!
